Week 12: Mysterious

This week we had to find something mysterious.
I took my Nature journaling kids into the woods and I settled next to a bunch of fiddlehead ferns and had fun examining, photographing, sketching, and journaling about them.

Beautiful photo – I’m working on a series of nature programmes for the BBC and during a recording yesterday, was telling a colleague about the old Enid Blyton story of “Pinkity and Old Mother Ribbony Rose”. The latter was a horrible witch who owned a ribbon shop. Poor Pinnkity’s job was to roll the ribbons in the shop - "There were blue ribbons made of the mist that hangs over faraway hills, and sea-green ribbons embroidered with the diamond sparkles that glitter on sunny water. There were big broad ribbons of shiny silk, and tiny delicate ribbons of frosted spider's thread, and wonderful ribbons that tied their own bows."
Can’t remember how it comes about, but Pinkity’s reward for some good deed or other is to be freed from working for the witch and he’s given the honoured task of rolling the ferns for the Fairy Queen. It’s a delightful fairy story and your photo has brought it to mind yet again. Thanks.
